The St. Luke Chaplain Rev. Deb Mechler provides spiritual guidance for residents on a daily basis, and hosts weekly worship services in the  Riverview Terrace and St. Luke Nursing Facility chapels.

Throughout the week, the Chaplain Mechler also engages in Bible
studies, devotions, grief support counseling, communion, and enjoys personal visits with residents daily.

Chaplain Mechler is available to speak at area churches about the St. Luke Campus and spiritual issues regarding the elderly

Chaplain Mechler was ordained to the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. She served as interim chaplain for several months before accepting the position as full-time campus chaplain in September 2002.

Chaplain Mechler received her bachelor of arts degree from Central College in Pella. She served as director of Christian education and youth ministries at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer from 1979-1989. She has also served as an education consultant for the Synod of the Heartland of the Reformed Church in America from 1988-1992.

She entered seminary at North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1994, graduating with a master of divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul in June 2002. Most recently, she served as interim associate pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.

 Mechler and her husband Dean have lived in Spencer for 25 years, and have two children. They are members of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
