The St. Luke campus is governed by a Board of Directors.
There are nine members on our board.
John Jensen, Board President
Mr. Jensen began his service on the board in 1994 and currently serves as president. He attends
Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, Iowa, and is a lay minister, providing pulpit supply for area congregations. Mr. Jensen has been farming for 32 years near Everly and is currently employed
as a director of information and financial services for CommStock Investments in Royal, Iowa.
He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University.
Mark Nothwehr, Board Vice President
Mr. Nothwehr joined the board in 2001. He is a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Mr. Nothwehr is co-owner of Midwest Land Management and Real Estate in Spencer. He earned a bachelor's degree in Ag Business from Iowa State University and has worked in the management of properties since 1987.
Frank Halverson
Frank and his wife Brenda live in Linn Grove. They have 2 children, Kerri who lives in Sioux Falls with husband Michel and daughter Alanna, and Holly who lives in Spencer with husband Aaron and daughter Alexa. Frank taught as a Vocational Ag teacher at Exira Community School for six years. He has farmed near Linn Grove since 1978 and has been a Pioneer Sales Rep since 1966.
Frank is a college graduate of Iowa State University with a BS and MS in Ag Education. He has been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove since 1978 serving as a Youth group leader, a Sunday school teacher, Church council, Deacon, Chairman and treasurer. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Frank has been a member of the BV County Pork Producer board, a member of Farmers Cooperative Board, and is a current member of Clay Mutual Insurance board. He feels that he can contribute to the future of St. Luke Homes & Services and strive to make the St. Luke Campus a great place to live for all.
Kaylan Abel
Mr. Abel joined the board in 1995. He is a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Spencer. Mr. Abel farms south of Royal, Iowa. He graduated from Greenville High school and earned his Associate's degree from Bethany Lutheran Junior College in Mankato, Minnesota. He also served in the U.S. Army for three years.
Denise Kramer-Tolzmann
Denise is originally from Everly (Hope Lutheran). She attended Texas Lutheran University and earned a bachelor's degree in home economics education from Texas State University. In addition to the classroom, she has experiences in program and personnel management, political organizing, and organizational development through employment with the Texas State Teachers Association and The National Education Association. Denise is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer where she serves on the church council and as lay minister, Confirmation and Sunday School teacher. She enjoys making presentations on her experiences from a mission trip to Southern Tanzania. Most of all, Denise loves sharing life with her husband Gary Tolzmann, who she met on a fishing trip.
Rev. Peter Maisenbach
Rev. Maisenbach joined the St. Luke Board in 1997. He is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and a Master's of Divinity Degree from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.
Ron Muetzel
Ron
rejoined the Board in 2010 after an 11-year absence. Originally elected to the Board in 1993, Ron served as a director until 1999. Ron and his wife, Barb, live in Spencer and are both retired. They have three grown children – Brett & wife Penny in Vista, CA; Brooke, who is just returning to the U.S. after teaching in Korea for 2 years and Japan for 3 years; and Brandon & wife Larissa in New Orleans. Ron is member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. With their children scattered all over the globe, they enjoy traveling to visit them.
Prior to retirement, Ron worked for Hy-Line International for 47 years in various management positions. He served on various church, community and work related boards and is presently a member of the Spencer Community Theatre Board of Directors.
With the increasing numbers of our aging population, Ron foresees a definite need for St. Luke Homes & Services independent living, assisted living and nursing home facilities and enjoys the opportunity to serve on the St. Luke Homes & Services Board.
Neal Drefke
Neal and his wife, Cindy, live in Spencer. They are members of First English Lutheran Church. Neal worked for Spencer Municipal Utilites for 28 years. He earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University. He wants to enhance the services provided by the Campus of St. Luke Homes & Services.
Don Helmkamp
Don and his wife, Wanda, live in Royal. They have four children and eight grandchildren. Before retiring five years ago, he worked at the Great Lakes Co-op. for several years in Everly. He is a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. His hobbies include fishing and watching his grandchildren's sport events. Don has lived in the Royal community since 1971. He has served as a past president of the Lyons Club, as well as a past chairman of the Booster Club of Everly. He was also on the Spencer Chamber Ag Committee for over 20 years. Don has served on numerous other committees throughout his lifetime. Don feels that he can contribute to the future of St. Luke Homes & Services and will strive to make the St. Luke Campus a great place to live for all. He will continue to help maintain the relationship and service that St. Luke Homes & Services has given throughout the years.
